Emeritus Professor of Cognitive Development at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience at UCL
I am an Emeritus Professor of Cognitive Development at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience at UCL. During my 30-odd years as MRC Scientist I aimed to understand the cognitive processes that might explain the core symptoms of autism and dyslexia. Since retiring I have enjoyed promoting women in science and diversity in academia. I have produced materials to mitigate unconscious bias and to raise awareness of the value of diversity in making group decisions. I am keen to improve science communication and have tried my hand in TV documentaries and most recently, in a graphic nonfiction comic, which depicts research in social neuroscience. I am also an advocate of Slow Science and passionately believe in ‘less but better.
About Dorothy:
"I am particularly pleased to participate in Dorothy’s Festschrift since she organized a Festschrift for me! Ever since I have known Dorothy, she has been a trusted friend and honest critic. Part of our latest venture, the comic, was inspired by Dorothy’s deep concern for better science. We were fortunate to get her critical input to the part that tries to convey the seduction of bad science and how to counteract it. Hurray for Dorothy! Long may she continue to inspire us all to do better!"
