Professor of Cognitive Psychology at Royal Holloway, University of London
Kathy Rastle is Professor of Cognitive Psychology at Royal Holloway, University of London. She is interested in the neurocognitive mechanisms that underpin reading and reading acquisition, and in how the reading skill is shaped by properties of the writing system being learned. Rastle is a Fellow of the Academia Europaea and the Academy of Social Sciences, and her research has won prizes from the British Psychological Society and the Experimental Psychology Society. She has a strong interest in translating her research to improve children’s outcomes, and recently won the ESRC ‘Celebrating Impact’ Prize, recognizing the global influence of her work on literacy policy and practice. Rastle serves as President of the Experimental Psychology Society and as Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Memory and Language.
