Becky Clark is a Fellow of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, Director of ClarkSLT and a founder of the RADLD YouTube campaign www.youtube.com/radld. Becky has held research officer roles at UCL and IOE, set up speech and language therapy services in schools and led the therapy department at Moor House School & College. As a member of Dorothy’s CATALISE consortium, Becky was involved in the consensus around criteria and terminology in relation to DLD. The team at ClarkSLT now specialise in providing SLT services for children and young people in educational settings.
Through her clinical work, Becky became acutely aware of the discrepancy between the prevalence and impacts of DLD versus a lack of awareness of the condition. In 2012, the RADLD campaign was founded through a collaboration between Professors Dorothy Bishop, Gina Conti-Ramsden, Courtenay Norbury, Maggie Snowling, and Becky, supported by marketing specialist Natalie Orringe. As editor, Becky created RADLD films and ran the channel and social media. In 2017, the team launched DLD Awareness Day and RADLD was recognised with an award for Charity Film of the Year in 2018.
About Dorothy:
“I have known of Dorothy’s research and her immense influence in the field of DLD since my early days of studying to be a Speech and Language Therapist. I could never have imagined that I would have the opportunity to collaborate with Dorothy and be privileged to learn directly from working with her.
Dorothy has been a source of incredible inspiration that enabled us to turn an idea into a global campaign. At all times, she has been committed to understanding the experiences of young people and families affected by DLD and applying evidence with empathy to achieve change. Her reflective, humble, and insightful approach is part of why Dorothy has had such impact and I feel hugely fortunate that I have had the opportunity to work with her.”
